Norway’s lockdown started to be relaxed almost a month ago now, so you can’t compare two different countries at different points in the process.

It is very odd to fly into Norway and find out that people don’t observe social distancing in public not do they wear masks. When I go for a walk in the park wearing a mask people stare at me but that does not inspire them to keep their distance. Also runners brush against me without much attention to physical distancing rules. People at cafes and restaurants are sitting very close to one another and waiters are not wearing masks. I am a bit worried that Norway will have a serious outbreak pretty soon given that people are unguarded in their interactions. In CA, the public health department was sending us text messages to remind us about keeping 6 feet apart, wearing masks in public buildings, on transportation, and in supermarkets– in fact we were not allowed into any public or retail building without masks… why doesn’t the Norwegian government take such measures, especially now that travel restrictions are beginning to be loosened?
