He had 9 children, one of his daughters was one of the lighthouse keepers. I visited Norway for 10 months in the winter of 1960-1, in Hadeland, but did not know details of my ancestors at that time…pity. Thank you for writing your articles.

I have visited Ålesund a few times now, although only once in winter when I was almost sunbathing on a snowy beach! Definitely a favourite fjord town for history and architecture and the walk up Aksla can continue east on to Lilletoppen, although need good footwear for that in Winter.
The islands nearby are worth a visit too – Godøya and Valderøya for example are (or at least were) reasonably accessible by local bus from downtown. Great view back to the mainland and out to sea from Storhornet on Godøya.
