Comments on: Feriepenger: Holiday Pay in Norway Explained /holiday-pay/ All Things Norway, In English Fri, 04 Jul 2025 12:29:20 +0000 hourly 1 By: Paavo /holiday-pay/#comment-1032276 Fri, 04 Jul 2025 12:29:20 +0000 /?p=61874#comment-1032276 It would be helpfull to know, like someone else already asked, from where this 12% is taken from?

Is it held from your wage on top of taxes, or is it put aside by employer “behind the scenes”, in essence you get 12% on top of your salary towards your holidaypay? Like put it simply, Holidaypay is 12% of your normal mothly salary (the wage you see on your payslip monthly or bi weekly or when ever you get it)

As Im offered rotational work (some weeks on some weeks off) in Norway from another Nordic country Im trying to get a rough idea of what Im actually getting on hand. The wages offered arent good, and taxes seems to be higher for this type of thing me coming from abroad. All in all it might be worth it as I could work those weeks off at my home country regardless, or just chill and still be able to scrape by.

When you leave a job, your holiday money is paid out in an additional payslip. It’s then up to you to hold that back for the following July, or otherwise.

The holiday pay is paid out in June (or similar) based on an ammount accured in the previous working year. Where does the money come from? Is it put aside (accured) every month in the last year? Or is it the money that is witheld from the employee in June the year before? Also, “For those with an entitlement of 25 vacation days, your holiday pay will be at least 12%” – 12% of what? My yearly salary from previous year or current year? When I take holidays, what “pile” is the money coming from? My salary this year is higher than last year. Also, half way through this year, I want to change to a 90% position. So how will that affect my holiday pay if I take a week of holidays in the second part of the year, already working 90%? Will the holiday rate be 90% or 100% – since it accured last year, when I worked 100%. I hope it makes sense what I am struggling with and I would appreciate some more clarification on this:)

Can I refuse to take the vacation days ? They are deducted from our salary this first year. although i get paid a partial part from my previous co.

You’ll get paid May-December 2020 in June of 2021, but if you continue working in 2022 You’ll get paid January-December 2021 in June of 2022
