You didn’t say anything about registering a child at UDI.

Hi there,

I am by no means an expert but it seems to me the bank ID is only necessary if you want to declare paternity online. You can do it in person at a tax office or NAV office – you could do this when you come for the birth.

Be aware that after that, since you are not living together, the mother will have a whole year to to claim sole parental responsibility. If you disagree, you will have to appeal to the courts. So the best is to come to an agreement with her.

My suggestion to you would be to contact a tax office and ask them directly.

Good luck!

Daniel

I am an Australian citizen who is having a baby with a Norweigan resident. I left Norway but will be back in Mar of this year for the birth.

I’m trying to register paternity but can’t do without a bank ID and can’t get a bank ID without a Norweigan address. I am no longer with my partner so can’t use her address.

I’m reaching out on the hope that you might know about this topic and may have suggestions.

I’d appreciate any advice you may have.

Thanks
