I visited Lillehammer in 2003 with my cousin who is a dentist from Bergen. We spent some time at the Olympic venues but it was summer so all we could see were people “grass skiing” down the ski jump. It seemed to us that there were many tourists like ourselves who were looking at the places we only saw on TV. One thing that surprised both of us was that the Olympic flame tower was very small. It looked huge on TV. The reason I read your article was to find out whether Lillehammer was saddled with debt after hosting the Olympics. Your article didn’t address that issue. Apparently other Olympic cities have lost billions of dollars and now only a few cities will consider hosting future Olympic games.

I have been to Norway three times (1999, 2001 and 2003) and I really want to go back. I still have many family members living in Norway and I miss them. I truly envy you living in Trondheim (I’ve never been there), traveling around the country and working as a consultant and a freelance writer. Part of me wants to tell the world about Norway and part of me wants to keep this wonderful secret to myself so that Norway isn’t spoiled. Best of luck.
