Wow, luck or fate? Both I’d say…uffda!

Yes, things will get much better in the US now that Slow Joe and the ho have been elected.

Well Caterina B, you (and we all) got saved from the wannabe dictator, thank heaven! Now things can only get better. Love your good feelings for Norway, that shines through. (Have you ever visited the country?)

Would it surprise you that ‘uffda’ is rarely used in Norway? I grew up there and can’t remember hearing it before I came to the US.

Never knew he was of Norwegian ancestry until he told me he was a “black Norwegian”; his ancestors
were from the Bergen area and had dark or black hair with Mediterranian dusky complexion. He had been
told the Vikings brought captives back to Norway and he had inherited these features.

The genealogy site used by a majority of Norwegians is “My Heritage.” I use it and have had a DNA test done through them. They have discovered, for me, literally thousands of ancestors who have, mostly, passed away by now. But, also, hundreds of living “cousins.” To my surprise, my DNA test revealed 0.09% NIGERIAN DNA. That test also, as i expected, says I am 98%percent “Scandinavian.” AND some North African thrown in, too, less than 1%. Those Viking ancestors of mine must have traveled all the way down to Africa. I think it’s remarkable. Wish I knew more about DNA, and how it works. I have read that it’s pretty common to have a tiny bit of African DNA. It would have been carried to the US after the turn of the 19th century when my great grandparents emigrated to the US, I figure. I have no American ancestors before that time. Fascinating to me and fun to find out long ago history.

This reply is a year later. NOW, we DO need saving from a wannabe dictator. How did it come to this? My great grandparents were all from Norway. Sometimes I wish they had stayed there, but then, of course, I would not have been born at all. Norway, pray for us.

Still miss lefse, herring, Swedish coffee with eggshells in the grounds that the Lutheran ladies used to make at church (so good). Hard to find out here. I make Swedish meatballs and egg noodles for the kids every Christmas. They did the services in Swedish and Norwegian for the old people until the 1970’s at our little church in MN and the old ways were very much alive even into the 1980’s. Married a Pacific Islander and have the most gorgeous kids – they got my husband’s skin and thick hair but are very tall – well over six feet like the Scandinavian grandfathers. When I am feeling down my husband brings me a jar of good herring in wine sauce and it never fails to cheer. Love it with crackers and a little nip! Glad for the heritage and for my Grandpa Fritz, Uncle Ole, and Grandma’s Martha and Karen, who really knew their way around the kitchen. Last thing – I still have an old Nordic Track machine as I miss skiing and it’s a great workout. Blessings…

“most of the men wear cargo shorts, baseball caps worn backward, and are obsessed with sports.”
LOL Spoken like someone who gets his views about Americans from Hollywood and has probably never actually met an American or been to America!

I think everyone should be proud of their features. I have always loved scandinavian women and i always wished i could marry one.*
